The Western March stands upon a single peach-colored leg. Its body is spotted-white patterning on gold with a darker metallic bronze dusting on its back. Each glass bird is individually handmade at Iittala’s sister factory in Nuutajãrvi, Finland.
Toikka’s imaginative, rich and bold glass art sets him apart from the streamlined aesthetic of Nordic design. These glass birds are his best-known works. Birds have been a source of inspiration to Oiva Toikka for 30 years, leading him to become one of the greatest names in Finnish glass.
