Toikka’s new red tern is a gorgeous bird made of scarlet transparent glass. When illuminated by the surrounding light, it glows crimson, making it an ideal piece to display in a window. The bird’s head is made of clear glass, which gives the bird just the right amount of interest.
Each glass bird is individually handmade at Iittala’s sister factory in Nuutajãrvi, Finland. This collection of glass birds is Oiva Toikka’s best-known work. Birds have been a source of inspiration to him for over 30 years.
